Sound Energy Solutions truck LNG Import Terminal

GNA Strategy:

  • Implement fully integrated education and community outreach campaign on the economic, environmental, and safety benefits of LNG
  • Provide “LNG 101” training sessions to a range of diverse stakeholder groups, including the local fire department, public officials, fleet operators, and community and business leaders to assuage safety concerns
  • Create local demand for LNG fuel in the Port by encouraging terminal operators and drayage truck owners to convert to LNG
  • Educate key decision makers on the environmental and economic benefits of LNG and address misconceptions and concerns
  • Host regular forums in an intimate setting for community members to get questions answered about proposed project

Project Results:

  • Developed and implemented the world’s first LNG yard truck project: GNA encouraged terminal operators in the Long Beach/Los Angeles harbor area to replace their diesel terminal tractors with LNG-powered tractors in order to create demand for the fuel. As a result of GNA’s efforts, Sound Energy Solutions (SES) sponsored deployment of the world’s first marine terminal tractors powered by clean LNG at the Yusen Terminals Inc. facility in the Port of Los Angeles.
  • Strengthened relationships with key stakeholders and secured project support: GNA successfully alleviated the concerns of the environmental and local communities using a broad range of outreach tactics to distribute messages on a complex, technical topic quickly and effectively. By working proactively with community leaders and environmental groups to build understanding and acceptance of the project early on, GNA’s efforts turned neutral parties into project supporters thereby reducing project opposition.
