Awards in all categories to deliver additional stimulus for alternative energy projects in California SANTA MONICA, CA - June 30, 2010 - GNA landed an impressive $14.1 million in Assembly Bill 118 (AB118) grant awards on behalf of its clients for some of the world’s most cutting-edge, super-low carbon transportation projects, including the nation’s largest Biomethane project, an OEM natural gas hybrid truck commercialization effort, and several critical gap-closing alternative fuel station infrastructure projects. With $44.8 million offered in three AB118 project categories (Biomethane Production for Transportation, Alternative Fuel Vehicle Infrastructure, and Medium- & Heavy-Duty Advanced Vehicle Technology), GNA’s applications were awarded $14.1 million, or 31.5% of available funding. These awards were made under California’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program, established in 2007 upon the passage of AB118. “We could not be more pleased with the Energy Commission’s decision to fully fund all of our applications,” said Erik Neandross, Chief Executive Officer of GNA, who led the company’s grant writing efforts. “These awards reinforce GNA’s strategy of selecting projects that we feel offer the best opportunity to leverage available funding to achieve maximum benefit. The positive environmental and economic impacts of each of these projects will be significant and will be felt not only statewide but also throughout the region.” Collectively, winning GNA projects under the AB118 program will displace 21.5 million gallons of diesel fuel and reduce GHG emissions by nearly 73,000 metric tons per year. In the short-run, conservative estimates show that these projects will lead to the creation of 370 California-based jobs in the advanced technology sector, with an additional 4,900 jobs supported over the longer-term life of the projects. These are exactly the benefits sought by the administrators of the AB118 program, which seeks to develop and deploy alternative and renewable fuels and advanced transportation technologies to help attain the state's climate change policies. Complementing DTNA’s recent AB118 success, GNA successfully secured more than $4 million in funding on behalf of Sysco Foods Services of Los Angeles to purchase and deploy 42 new Freightliner M2 LNG powered tractors. These ultra-low emission LNG tractors will assist Sysco Foods in its continued efforts to convert its entire Los Angeles operation to operate on low-carbon LNG fuels. This important grant funding was secured from a combination of the South Coast AQMD’s Prop 1B Program as well as from other grant sources. Sysco Food Services of Los Angeles already operates more than 80 LNG trucks in its Southern California fleet, as well as an LNG refueling station; all of which was developed with GNA’s assistance.
