New Funding for Alt Fuels Employee Training Now Available

SANTA MONICA, CA - May 17, 2010 - Funding dollars are now available through the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the Employment Training Panel (ETP) to support training of employees in all aspects of alternative fuel vehicle technologies.  A broad range of businesses and public and private agencies are eligible for this funding and therefore interested parties are encouraged to apply immediately.

This is an excellent opportunity for businesses that are moving forward with the adoption of alternative fuel and emission reduction technologies.  This funding will ensure employees are fully prepared to operate and maintain new alternative fuel vehicles and equipment safely, efficiently and effectively.  Funding may be used for employee trainings in areas including, but not limited to:

  • Safe and efficient use of alternative fuel equipment;
  • Fleet conversions, servicing and maintenance;
  • Station installation and operations;
  • Equipment manufacturing and handling;
  • Alternative and renewable fuel feedstock production and extraction;
  • Renewable fuel production, distribution, transport and storage;
  • High-performance and low emission vehicle technology;
  • Automotive computer systems;
  • Other sectors or occupations related to the AB 118 Program's purpose

Companies and organizations that can take advantage of this funding include: alternative fuel vehicle OEMs, electric vehicle OEMs, refuse fleets, schools and academic institutions (i.e. community colleges, universities), utilities, trucking companies, alternative fuel providers, producers and distributors, clean vehicle technology developers, and more.

The Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program was passed into law in 2007, allocating $120 million per year for seven years to the California Energy Commission for funding projects to develop and deploy alternative and renewable fuel technologies and air quality improvement projects.
