SANTA MONICA – September 2, 2009 – GNA has received confirmation that the funding application for client J.B. Hunt was awarded $9.3m under California’s Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program. This program is administered by the California Energy Commission as established under State Assembly Bill 118. Possible awards under the AB 118 2009 Investment Plan were only available to projects which received federal awards in response to the U.S. Department of Energy’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 Clean Cities Funding Opportunity.
This additional funding will allow J.B. Hunt, one of the nation’s leading fleet operators, to deploy 262 LNG-powered Freightliner M2 trucks in its Southern California operations and will build two publicly accessible LNG fueling stations. The new fueling facilities will serve J.B. Hunt’s fleet and the large number of LNG trucks now being deployed in the San Pedro Bay Ports and elsewhere throughout the region. This will be the largest single deployment of natural gas on-road trucks in the history of the United States. Only three of a total of 41 applications were approved for funding by the CEC given that receipt of an ARRA award was a prerequisite for state cost-share. J.B. Hunt’s application received over 50% of the total awarded funding and scored an impressive 93.1 points for proposal development. About J.B. Hunt J.B.
