Santa Monica, CA (April 13, 2005): Gladstein, Neandross & Associates (GNA), a Santa Monica environmental consulting firm, has been selected as a part of the team that will help implement the groundbreaking PierPASS program in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. PierPASS is a new private-sector program developed by terminal operators in the port complex to shift port truck traffic to off-peak hours. The program is based on a $20 per TEU Traffic Mitigation Fee on all containers delivered to the ports. The Traffic Mitigation Fee is refunded for containers moved during night and weekend hours, or via the Alameda Corridor. PierPASS will result in significant improvements to traffic congestion and reductions in diesel trucks emissions in the port region. As part of the PierPASS outreach team, GNA will develop and implement outreach and education programs to increase awareness and participation in the PierPASS program among trucking companies, terminal operators, recipients of port cargo and other industry participants. Educating the California goods movement industry, communities, business leaders, environmental organizations, public agencies and elected officials about their options to help clean the air is one of our core competencies," commented Cliff Gladstein, President of GNA. "We are proud to be a member of the team that will launch this important air quality improvement program that will improve the quality of life for disproportionately impacted near-port communities." GNA helped develop and has also been involved in the Gateway Cities Clean Air Program for the last four years; was responsible for the development and implementation of the two-day Faster Freight - Clean Air 2004 conference in Oakland in December 2004; and is working on several other harbor area outreach, emission reduction and advanced low-emission technology implementation projects.
